This morning, 7:09 AM (one minute before my alarm goes off...)Repeated ringings of our doorbell. Sounds of security walkie-talkies.
Seth went and got the door, and all i heard was "car broken into"
Ironically, I wasn't mad, or panicked, or sad, or upset (i actually think i'm more upset about the fact that i lost and/or threw away our IKEA reciept, and we need to exchange something we got the wrong size of...boo!). I found a sweatshirt and shorts and red shoes and started to walk downstairs (notice: our bedroom is just that disorganized that it took me 14 minutes to find these mismatched items) right as seth was walking back in the door. Mr. Security Guard was right. Someone indeed smashed out our passenger window, stole my iPod and our radio iPod converter (do they call those iCars?) and shuffled through everything else. We don't think we left anything else in the car...so hopefully that's all mr/ms. ipod stealer took. I guess they broke into another car right in front of our house, so it wasn't just us. Ironically, they left the beemer next to us perfectly in tact...I guess they recognize unsecured cars. :(
It's kind of funny to me how ever since we left Virginia (literally) so many things have not gone our way. I guess I thought if anything like this kept on happening that somehow I'd be upset or down about it, but I'm in a better mood than i've been in a long time! Hey, new iPod, right? That's something to look forward to! Also, i got an iPod iCar thing from mom and dad last year for christmas, and have been saving it for a rainy day, and that day has come!!! Also, since we live in a gated community, the management may pay for some of the things we lost, you know, since they aparently weren't patrolling in our corner very well last night. So all in all, not bad!!
I should also mention that last night when we got home, we had a gift card from our apartment management to the grove, with an apology note for so many things being wrong with our apartment. I thought it was so nice of them. One of the girls, Jamie, has especially been helpful and we're really grateful for her. Sometimes there are just little angels among us who really take care of us and make us feel better. :)
Sooooo, all day i've been trying to imagine some kind of california thug, driving around in his car listening to my choice of music: The Sound of Music, Brigadoon, Harry Potter book on iPod, or HSM I & II. Which do you think he'll choose?

He's rockin' out to High School Musical, I know it!
That sucks big time. Same thing happened to Tom's car a few weeks ago - apparently you can get "welcomed" after two years, too! How do people spot those things?
Great news about the gift card, though! Score! I hope things are coming together at the new place.
SO SORRY... though so glad you both took it so well... never fun but I guess it could be worse
can't wait to see pics of the apt
That stinks! We had our car broken into during our dance competition about a month ago. They stole my purse at about 10 am in the morning. Luckily they didn't use any of my credit cards before I used them. The only thing I wish they didn't have was my month old cell phone. So i'm back to using my phone i've had for three years. I'm glad I had a back up phone with my numbers still on it.
The thing that annoys me is those people have no respect for others...I just could never do that to someone!! Hopefully your insurance or apartment pays for your window...we weren't so lucky! You have a great attitude! Love you guys!
Hon that stinks that your car got broken into but way to think positively! Maybe your Sound of Music tunes will convince him/her to live a better life?
So wrong that this happens!!! And so funny that you imagined a thug belting out Brigadoon hits! This is a time when you wish your iPod had some kind of GPS chip that could be tracked, huh?? Well, way to look on the bright side, Jane! I'll be cheering that things go your way.
Oh sad. Good attitude about it all, but I sincerely hope that this gang thug goes onto recognize the pure joy of musical theater and converts to a life of dancing and singing...and it will be all because of you!
I'm going with those jaunty Brigadoon tunes. So sorry that happened!! Are you going to be safe in that big city? I get nervous going to Rexburg alone at night. Aaahh!
Love you! Oh - I missed your call because our phone is dying. I can't get it back today. Sorry about that...
Look at you with your good attitude. I am impressed!
you sound upbeat! that is great! also great that they might pay for some stuff! also i love your image of him driving around listening to your music. i think anybody that stole mine would have and interesting selection as well!
I am so sorry about the loss of the iPod and the broken window, Jane.
Your attitude, though, is a testament to the good in the world, and I am impressed by your optimism!
I hope the thug listens to the scriptures you have on your iPod.
Punk.
OH man, Jane! I'm so sorry! That's a hard thing to deal with. After a few of my roommates go their cars broken into, I realized it's much safet to NEVER leave anything important in my car!
By the way, I couldn't quite tell from the picture, but what kind of car do you guys have?
Ohhh i just took that pic from the internet. We have a 2008 toyota corolla that is navy. I LOVE IT!
Wow, I just can't believe all the stuff you guys have delt with since leaving DC. Way to look on the bright side, and there are lots of blessings to the story, like you pointed out!
