So...after a scary incident where I didn't think Ryan was breathing, Seth and I started including in every goodnight prayer for Ryan "And please bless Ryan to breath in and out all night long..."

To blog about..

Have you ever wanted to do something just so you can blog about it?

Well, last week(ish) I got nordstrom's tickets to see the pre-pre-release screening (meaning, 9:30 pm instead of midnight) for Twilight.

I totally don't love Twilight, but I totally wanted to go SO that I could blog about it. When it wasn't working out to go with people around here, I even went so far as to try to coax my friend Jen into flying out here to go with me to the premiere.

Now THAT would be something to blog about! Two girls who don't love twilight meet up from different cities just to attend a pre-release party that they don't care about so they can get a few pictures and post about a 'once-in-a-lifetime experience'.

Seriously.

So, instead of being a part of that whole mess, we opted to sell the tickets and NOT go ourselves. And tonight, as I was going about my night, I just kept thinking what a great choice that was. There are always other things to blog about!

--Number one being this picture. Ahhhhh look at that kid!

--Ryan had a rough getting-to-sleep night. Poor kid's gums hurt, I'm sure of it. He needed some mama and papa loves and some snuggle time and some comfort food before he could get down to sleep. He needed this mama (aka this mama needed to be there for it). I'm glad I was home with my baby boy instead of fighting crowds of tweens screaming over sparkling bodies.

(SIDENOTE: Ryan learned how to pull himself up to standing this week, and he keeps standing up in bed and then crying because he can't sit back down...any advice about that people? What do you do when your kiddie is 'cryin' it out' but can't sit back down once they've stood up in bed?)

--Seth is back to Funemployment since his contract ended today. Um. Okay that wasn't a reason to stay home, but since seth said funemployment on his facebook status i've wanted to say it again...because it's funny.

--I've just been thinking a lot about TIME at home. Time together with our FAMILY. Time spent on the important things. Time to remember and cherish. I like my little family.

--I like when ryan's not sleeping and 'dad's' in there with him to "help him sleep" how mostly I hear 'dad' making sound effects and entertaining the little one to not-sleep. Those boys are hilarious. This is Ryan's latest toy from dad:


NOTE: Twihards, don't be sad at me for this post! I will live vicariously through your posts about your midnight showings. And I'll be SOOOO excited for you and will be glad to hear all about it. Don't think I'm dissing Twilight...I think for most EVERYONE else it's the best place to be--a getaway, a girls night, a FUN outing and adventure, a memory, etc...and I'm super duper excited and glad y'all got to go!

Long Beach Aquarium

With the first Saturday to ourselves in Who-Knows-How-Long, we decided to make the most of it and take off to Long Beach Aquarium!

We bought Ryan a souvenir Turtle, and he LOVED it. He seriously bounced it up and down and ate it for an hour and a half, which apparently equals LOVE when you're an infant. (Wouldn't it be funny if we did the same thing to express how much we love something?)
I might love the baby turtle as much as Ryan does.
I told Seth I now understand why parents buy toys for their children--the delight it brings them is so validating as a parent!!

All in all, what a beautiful FAMILY day! I love my Family!

Apartment Tour!

This post is for BFF Cara, who likes to know exactly where I am when we're talking on the phone. And because I cleaned my house and was so excited to finally take pictures with it clean!

(Not pictured: our DISASTER of a Master Bathroom that currently stores our luggage and cleaning supplies and hair dryer (because i shed a lot when i blowdry...), our closets because you don't need to see them, and my sewing table area because it's a little messy!)

Tonight

After a LOVELY day in Long Beach, I was a little exhausted, and possibly a little crankypants from lack of sleep recently.

But THESE brightened my night:

Watermelon Fro-Yo. With Watermelons and Cucumbers (and coconut!) Delicious! Emily could tell I was on the down-and-out side via IM and had the PERFECT solution!

This vintage GEM! My friend Emily is getting married in 98 days to David, and (misty eyed) she bought this as one of her options to wear with her wedding dress. I LOVE it. Emily found an option that works better with her dress...and she GAVE me this one! (more misty eyes!) I tried on 5 dresses tonight to try and decide what to wear it with tomorrow to church. It's going to be one of my most treasured pieces ever. I love it.

Tonight I feel lucky to have such lovely people in my life.

I Love to Bake!

Lately...

I've been having fun with our fresh fruit from Farm Fresh!

Seth loves Strawberries, and he also loves pie. I'm not a huge fan of pie, or pie crust, but for Father's day I'd been planning to make him some sort of pie. I found this cute idea for mini strawberry pies from tasty kitchen and thought I'd try it!

Luckily, I had a refrigerated store bought pie crust to use...because pasty making was NOT in the cards for me.

I used a magic bullet lid to cut out circles to press into cupcake pans, and used the remaining dough to form strips to use as lattice on the top. I was in a bit of a rush to finish before Seth got home, so I didn't do official lattice, I just put one direction and then the other and called it good!

FOR THE FILLING:
½ cups All-purpose Flour
1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
½ cups Brown Sugar, Not Packed
¼ cups White Sugar
1 dash Cinnamon
1 dash Nutmeg
4 cups Halved Strawberries
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Then, In a small bowl mix together the 1/2 cup flour, cornstarch, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. In a larger bowl, toss the strawberries with the vanilla extract and then toss them in with the dry ingredients.

The result was kinda cute!! We actually didn't even eat them on Father's day, but I warmed them in the toaster oven the next day and they were delicious, even to me the non-pie-lover!

Tonight I decided to conquer the fresh cherries we got this morning by making a Cobbler! I looked up the easiest way to pit a cherry, which apparently is to use the potato-eye picker from the top of a peeler, and it worked like a charm!

I'm using Pioneer Woman's Blackberry Cobbler #1 recipe, an old standby that we have made a lot of times with frozen berries. I'm excited to see how it turns out with a cobbler. And, as usual, we will be pairing it with Albertson's brand vanilla bean ice cream...another favorite!

And while we're on the subject of baking and favorites...I LOVE Albertson's! Not only do they have the best store bought cookies, but their Wild Harvest Brand??? Ohhhh it brings me SO much joy! Cookies, Crackers, BABY FOOD!!!, Milk, Yogurt....you name it and say it's Wild Harvest and I will go bananas!! I'm so glad the Albertson's is just a mile away, I walk there frequently!!!

Mmmm so if any of you are free around 10 PM tonight, come on over for some fresh cherry cobbler!

Hollywood Ward's Got Talent!

And here Seth is to PROVE it, people!

Seth and I had the chance (okay, somehow we were suckered in...) to being emcees for the Hollywood Ward Talent Show. Seth is quite the comic, and he took a lot of time and preparation to make it EXCELLENT! Here is his opening song/intro--I think it's so good!



We had a variety of acts, interspersed with the "house band", who did a great job with bumper music! I really think it was so well put together and such a fun activity!

And Ryan is SO tech savvy already! AND...as a baby Johnson, he has to have his own camera!!! Thanks Grandma Price for the FUN toys!

Sleepytime!

I get such a kick out of this kid. This morning I put him down for his nap, and when I went in to check on him, this is what I saw.


I love the little hand that creeps up 1/2 way through to grab onto the crib.

And then when he fell asleep, I went in to see this:


Why is it that kids sleep in the most awkward positions? Most of the time he has either grover or his giraffe under his head...desperate for a pillow.

I can't help but just check in all the time at my precious little guy.

Family Re-RUN-ion

I never know how to post about trips other than having a lot of pictures, because I don't want the details to bore anyone. But the details are so FUN about this trip, that I just have to post a few!

FIRST: The RUN


My first 10k!! Seth and I were the first two people off the block running through the start line holding hands (we ARE in this together, after all!). Seth continued running fast, and then a LOT of people passed me :). A little into the race, my friend from Ashton (think All-State Choir, Steve Dodds, and Nate Lowe!) Meieli Eidam Allen came up by me!! She was running the race with another friend of hers, so I picked up my pace a little bit to run next to her--and I have to give her a lot of credit for my time! I'm so sad I didn't get a picture with her after the race, I wasn't thinking!

Anyway, at Mile 3 there was a switchback, so running up a hill I saw Seth running back down--in 3rd place!! I was so excited for him, and it was fun to see him along the way, so I kept running hard! At about mile 4.5 I realized I wasn't tired, and probably wouldn't be, so I picked up the pace again. Since it was all downhill from there, it wasn't hard to just coast down. BUT, by the time I got to the finish line, I realized I might be outdoing myself a little bit...because the heaves started coming! Seth, who finished super fast, came back up to run a little bit with me at the end, and as I hit the final stretch I saw Mary and raised my arm to wave...and it was just a little bit too much for me!

I debated whether to post these pictures, because they're not for the faint of heart...but ultimately decided to share my FULL experience with the blogosphere.

"Yup...sure did. across the finish line? seriously??? uh oh!" (but check out that quad muscle!)


Oh well, it didn't take me long to recover. Also, I wasn't really using that banana as a phone, I'm also holding my phone in that hand. I wasn't THAT out of it! I was just calling to check on my baby boy Ryan, who mom was nice enough to watch during the race so both of us could run!

My goal was to run the 10K in under an hour, and I honestly didn't think I'd be able to do it, but I got SOOOO excited when I realized I was going to (about mile 4) and then with the nice downhills I was able to finish in 58:13!!!! From a girl who didn't ever run, I felt pretty excited.

After the race, we went back and got kind of ready, and then rushed back for the awards ceremony, since Seth is a rockstar and PLACED in the race!!!! It was a little anticlimactic since they just read off the names of the top 3 in the 10K, and didn't have them come up, but I still yelled and cheered and took pictures of my honey in celebration. I thought the sweetest thing about it all was that Seth wanted to take Ryan up with him if they had the winners come up to get medals. Of course he wanted to share that with our baby!

NEXT: The ReUNion

It was so fun seeing family! Friday we all met up at Mary's and then went to Pickett Bambinos for some delicious scone pizza goodness and....drumroll...Ryan's first ride on a carousel! I guess I never imagined that my childhood carousel would someday be the carousel my child would ride on--it was a little nostalgic!


I'm so glad Mom and Dad always make an effort to get us to the carousel, it's magic to see the kids on it, running to the "perfect" horse. Mom and Dad also gave all the kiddies "Remember" necklaces and bracelets so they could "Remember" the trip...and their awesome grandparents!

On both Friday and Saturday we got to go swimming at the hotel's pool with the kiddies. Ryan is quite the swimmer, he loved it (Well, he also loved watching from the sidelines on Grandma's lap for a long time, too! I think he just likes being with family!) I loved seeing all the cousins playing with each other, young and old!

Saturday after the race we went back to Mary's to celebrate Amy's birthday with some delicious sheet cake! It was divine, thank you Mary and Pioneer Woman! I thought it was nice that we got to Celebrate Amy's birthday, since she's the oldest in the family, I haven't celebrated many of her birthdays with her (that I remember!) so it was a treat!

The nice thing about this trip was that we all had time to do what we needed to do, and we had time together to just chat and relax. Ryan got to play on the floor with cousins, we got to sit back and enjoy the Idaho Water, the fresh breeze, and each other. It's nice to have a change of pace and to share that with family.

THEN: The FOLKS
Oh Sugar City, how we've missed you!

It was SOOOO nice to see bff Cara and her hubby Brandon in Idaho! It's been way too long. Thursday they treated us to some delicious Craigos (have you HAD their dessert pizzas?? I can now say that I have--pretty sure I tried every flavor--delicious!) and then we spent the night at their place, staying up all sorts of late chatting about...everything. Then on Saturday we got together for some Gs Ice Cream and Cocoa Bean Cupcakes--who said you can't have two desserts? (not us!) Quality talk time was the best. Love you, Cara and Brandon!

We also got to see Lisa Luke Toney from high school--first time in 9 years since we'd seen each other! They have a cute son named Benson who is ADORABLE--Lisa got married the day before us, and had Benson about a month and a half before we had Ryan, so it's fun to be in the same phase of life. Even though we haven't talked much, we picked up right where we left off--it's so nice having friends like that!

We also got to stop by my friend Alli's house to meet her little guy Grant! I was so excited to see Alli, she's a friend who has spanned high school, college, and beyond (even my BYU days...she has truly seen it all!). And I was THRILLED to meet little Grant, it was kind of a dream come true. Grant has changed my life--hearing about his condition, watching miracle after miracle, seeing his courage and his parent's courage through his miraculous journey through life...take a look at his blog and you'll see! He was adorable and even shared his crawling toys with Ryan to help Ryan learn to crawl :)

At the race I also got to see my friend Alli Blackham Whittaker, and later met up with some old class of '99ers, Stup, Courtney, and Lori, for a minute before Ryan was ready to sleep and we had to take off! I LOVE that everywhere Seth and I go in Utah and in Idaho, we see the Strongs. We really have seen them about once a year since I moved to DC, they've met Seth more frequently than anyone else in Sugar City (except maybe Cara!). We saw them at the race and got to see their kids for a minute, too! I love the old crowd in Sugar City (mostly) (just kidding) (okay, really mostly).

AND THEN: Some Tidbits

--So...Thursday we headed on a direct from LAX to Idaho Falls. As soon as we got our rental car and started driving, Seth said "Okay, Janey, where do we go?" to which I responded "How am I supposed to know?" "Well," Seth said, "YOU grew up here, don't you know how to get around?" .... "No!!!"...Seriously, I had no idea where to go. We went to roberts first, because somehow I thought we should continue north, but little did I know that you turn onto the 20 to get to rexburg. I thought it was just the I-15 the whole way! (oops). So...after that seth asked other people for directions....ANYONE else he could find (I'm pretty sure he asked Kyle and Kaitlin for directions a few times...)

--So Ryan lost his rattle when we were at the Brunson's house, and Seth asked the kids if they knew where it was. Kait quickly yelled "I do!" and took seth upstairs. She then turned to him and said "Okay... so... what does it look like?" Awwww, precious girl!

--Seth went to Millhollow with the family and sat by Trevor, Jim, Kyle, and Kaitlin. They were talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up, and Kyle had some of the funniest one liners ever..."Oh, I want to be a policeman, but I don't want to give out tickets--I'm a nice guy! I don't want to take up people's time." "I won't listen to that scanner, I want to listen to my iPod instead." "If I ever had to arrest Kaitlin, I would pretend like I was taking her to jail, but really I'd sneak around and take her back to her house. And if they looked in the Jail, they'd be like 'that police officer is not doing his job.'" "They might fire me, but then I'd go get my job back the next week." "If I ever had to talk about my Dad in court, I'd be like 'he's my dad and a good guy and never does anything wrong.'" Seth came back to the hotel room and told me the entire conversation. It was so cute to hear about how Kyle and Kait were peppering Trevor with questions--it's fun to see the cousins all interacting!

--We stayed in the NICEST hotel! It was beautiful, clean, and a great layout. Kudos, Mariott, Heather, and Mom and Dad, for a GREAT place to stay!

Today we had an impromptu get together with some ladies in the ward to make headbands!!! Here are some of our creations!
