The Quilt Block Exchange

I'm so excited for my first quilt block exchange!! Taryn, a friend from Colonial 1st ward, decided to organize a quilt exchange, and invited me to join, I can't wait to start!

A few people have asked me what this is, so I'll post and excerpt from my friend Mel's Blog (she and taryn did one earlier this year!) so we can all further understand this project:

"Here is how it works. We are all using the same quilting pattern and the same line of fabrics (so all the colors and patterns coordinate). We each make 16 identical squares, we keep one and then mail the remaining 15 squares to the other 15 quilters while they do the same...[when the new squares arrive] I’ll then take the 16 different squares and sew them together to create a quilt! The advantage of doing an exchange is that it’s much easier and faster to make identical squares that unique ones. This also allows us to see what other creative combinations others created."

I will add that I'm AWFUL at mailing things, so luckily the one we're doing is local, so hopefully i can just deliver them to everyone and avoid the dreaded post office.

We're doing a colorful pinwheel block quilt with alternating white--a perfect summer quilt.

This is the pattern that I'm using:

And here are a few of the other patterns that will be in the quilt:

And this is what each block should look like:

I'll update you on the progress!

Jane, how fun! Love the idea. And would love to get into quilting myself. Are you guys in need of another quilter? Or do you know where to find quilt block exchanges?

Hey Jane, great to hear from you... totally let Maren know that we'd love to have her. We still have spots for a few more on our block exchange! :)
